GO TO YOUR ROOM !

I borrowed this phrase from the recently deceased Canadian painter Robert Genn who believed that there is only so much we can learn about how to paint from the many fine instructors and resources available today. The true learning comes from going off on our own and just doing it - Go to your room!

I have had the good fortune to take instruction from outstanding artists in Canada and the USA. I continue to work on my own development ( Going to MY room!) . I share, through this blog and workshops, what I have learned and what others have shared with me.

I created this blog primarily for those attending my workshops to keep in touch and to further share as we grow together. If others are interested in following that would be great.

Enjoy the journey.

Preparing for Plein Air Workshop May 2014

Have you always wanted to paint outside but did not quite know how to start? Or, have you tried plein air painting and found it difficult, even overwhelming? This two day acrylic/oil Preparing for Plein Air workshop will give you the tools you need to paint out of doors with confidence.
Saturday is indoors. It begins with a presentation, discussion and demonstrations of the methods and approaches used for planning and developing plein air paintings. Saturday afternoon participants will work with approaches to planning, choosing and simplifying subject matter and producing small paintings from references provided.
Sunday morning will include a review of Saturdays subjects and a planning and painting demonstration. Participants will then have the option of painting out of doors, close by, or staying indoors to further strengthen their basics - both under supervision. Sunday will end with a review and question and answer session.
The purpose is to expose participants with the skill they need  in preparation for the plein air season.

Next scheduled workshop. May 3/4 2014 in Qualicum Bay B.C.
